Pirates 3

In case you're one of the bazillion people going to see Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End, I was part of the sculpting team that worked on the Singapore set. I worked mostly on the rock walls of the boiler room, but also had a part in the look of the hot tubs.
We hot glued foam mushrooms on the tubs and used expanding spray foam sliced with a filet knife for the fungus.

I'll pipe in on what I thought of the movie after I see it this weekend.

Weekend?!!

After working 11 hour days, 6 day weeks since Easter, I actually got 3 days off for Memorial Day. Saturday, Akiko and I headed out to San Bernardino for the National Orange Show Festival. It was fun day in the sun with a circus, carnival, vintage cars, a petting zoo and plenty of interesting people.

Spider-man 3

I know it's hard to imagine that Duncan George Crawford, the same guy that used to take 2 days off from work every time a Batman film was released, would not see the latest Spider-man film until the 3rd week of being in theaters, but it actually happened. (I blame National Treasure 2)
My personal view is that Spider-man 2 is the greatest film based on a comic book character and after seeing Spider-man 3, I still feel the same. Spidey 3 was good, just not Spidey 2 good.
I was never a fan of the whole alien symbiote / Venom storyline or character in the comics so there wasn't much excitement from me to see them on screen. Also thought there were a few too many characters and threads on going making film a little on the long side.
What I did like about Raimi's latest: Sandman was perfect, great special effects and fight scenes. After watching the trailers, what looked like an unnecessary add-on ended up being what I liked most about the movie - Harry Osbourn. Goblin Jr. was bitchin' and Harry's story arc was very well done. The highlight as usual was of course Bruce Campbell. His Frenchman was his best Spidey appearance yet.
So Spider-man 3 definitely gets a thumbs up, but is not the best of the series.

Don't call it frolfing!

Still rock chopping along on Natural Treasure 2 with more sets coming up.
As burned out as I am from 6 day work weeks, I still had a chance to get out to the Disc Golf course on Sunday. We played 36 holes at the Oak Grove course right behind JPL in Pasadena. Oak Grove is THE first permanent disc golf course in the world... ah, the history.
Been playing disc golf (golf with Frisbees) since the 80's back in Rochester where we used to play across from the U of R in Genesee Valley Park and at Ellison Park. Great sport that's easy to pick up, but tough to master.

Dave and Craig on the green at hole 14.

7 years!

It was 7 years ago today that Akiko and I got married.
We then quit our jobs, packed up and drove cross country ending up in LA. There were some big adjustments for both of us, but all has worked out and everything is going great.

Lost

For those of you Lost fans, the set I was flown to Hawaii to sculpt on appeared on last Wednesday's episode "The Brig".
It was the column Locke's father was chained to and the ruins surrounding it. Definitely was excited to see some real good shots of it on screen.

Mouse House

After returning from S. Dakota, I was moved from the sculpting crew at Universal to a different crew (same movie) over at Disney Studios.
This is the first time I've worked at Disney and to my delight, they have one of the best commissaries out all the studios. A discount at the Disney store is a nice perk too.

Looks like Indiana Jones 4 is definitely happening now and there is a possibility of some of us sculptors rolling over to that show once Nat. Treasure wraps. Hope I didn't just jinx myself.
