San Juan Capistano

Seeing as Akiko and I are both in between jobs at the moment, we decided to take a day trip on Friday, before the long Labor Day weekend.
We first stopped at one of our favorite spots, Laguna Beach for lunch and some fine art galleries.
We continued South to San Juan Capistrano where our main mission was to see the Mission. We spent quite awhile checking out the grounds, exhibits and the ruins of the Great Stone Church which was destroyed by an earthquake during morning Mass in 1812.

Some nice colors and textures in the North corridor.

The Great Stone Church ruins.

Before the Mission closed Akiko had a chance to break out her portable plein air paint set and painted one of the buildings.

New Link!

Since my Skulboy.com website is in "under construction" mode, I've decided to add a Sculpture Portfolio link to the top right side of this blog.
That way if a visitor wants to see my work, they don't have to wade through vacation pictures and blabbing to glimpse what I'm sculpting. There's one link for the maquettes I've done and one for the work I've sculpted for Film and Television.
Hope you like it.

Legend Of Mary Worth

Back in '05, Akiko and I with help from Charles Wills, worked on The Legend Of Mary Worth, a movie written and to be directed by our friend Dominick Domingo. The film was a small budget horror film and our job titles included Concept Artist, Storyboard Artist, Prop Master, Sculptor, Art Director and Production Designer among other things. We were there to do anything we could to help Nick bring his script to the screen.

We filmed the period flashback scenes detailing the origin of Mary and then things fell apart and our involvement with the film ended. I don't know the details, but the movie was eventually completed and will be released in September. I doubt Akiko and I will get credit although it will be fun to see our part on the screen.
The movie is now titled LEGEND OF BLOODY MARY and if you click the title you can see the youtube trailer. Our scenes can be glimpsed during "The Legend" portion of the trailer.

Work Work Work

Sorry for lack of posts, but not much other than work is going on.
Still sculpting for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and things have been a little nutty. The space we are building sets in is so huge, we're able to build 5 or 6 sets at a time. The problem is that the place isn't sound proof so every time the Company shows up to shoot on one of the many sets, construction gets put on night crew. Working 10pm to 8am is just not natural so you end up existing as some sort of zombie. When to eat, when to sleep, losing track of what day it is and making it through a shift on 2 to 5 hours of sleep is all part of the deal.
I am however very grateful to be employed in an industry that's pretty slow at the moment so I'll stop bitching.

This is an illustration I did (based on the artwork of Gil Kane and Wally Wood) for the K-a fanzine celebrating the anniversary of Captain Action.
